Humans are such good drivers, hey. When you talk about what ‘good driving’ is, the default in everybody’s mind is race car driving. Being able to drive fast, to corner well, control a car in skids etc. Hardly anybody will nominate not being an arsehole and driving to make life easier and safer for other drivers, and efficiently, as ‘good driving’. Driving as a social activity, not a physical activity. It’s a measure of how much adolescent ‘motoring enthusiasts’ have hijacked driving as an activity. Watch an old Peter Wherrett show to see how 50 years ago it was still possible to talk about cars and driving in much more adult ways.
