For most of history, children were not thought of as a separate group. They entered the adult world from a very young age. When universal schooling arrived, we flipped the world in the complete opposite direction. As that schooling continued, we replaced adult life, with the culture kids learn in schools. It’s all they know, and what they then re-built adult life with. Now instead of everybody living and working in an adult world, we all live and work in a child’s world. An adolescent culture. ‘Living your best life’ culture. Societies are now on permanent gap years from reality, because there is no adult world left for kids to enter. It’s high school forever.
