How would you answer if somebody asked, who runs Australia? Or who runs the world, or the place where you work, or your household? My guess is many would name a person or people to answer each of those. My answer is - routine. Routine runs all of those things. The complexity of our society is way too big for any individual or even group of people to manage. What keeps the lights on and food on our plates and everything else, is routines, routines set up by generations of different people. The past acts right now in the present, our routines or habits are the way the wisdom of millions, alive and dead, keep the world running. Also why I think it's mostly irrelevant who our leaders are. Not because the country is run by big business, or some other conspiracy theory, but because routines do most of the work. Nobody owns them, they evolve, you can't control them. Without them we'd be living in trees.
