One of the most interesting theories is that the Spanish Flu pandemic caused the 20th century epidemic of heart disease. The flu virus took up residence in peoples' bodies after they thought that pandemic was over, and became the largest cause of death for the next 50 years. We're now starting the next century in exactly the same way, with Covid. Another example here. Common cold viruses found in the brains of people who died of multiple sclerosis. But colds are harmless! Pig's arse. No infection is harmless.
