What ideas are you a slave to? Wormtongue is I think a perfect metaphor for what ideas do to people, endlessly whispering in their minds and dulling their whole being, like the king here. Every tiny thing in your life is driven by some idea. It’s not your idea, ideas are separate to people. They’re active beings. You need to work hard, to think, to master ideas rather than have them master you.
