Toyota is often thought of as the pinnacle of reliability in vehicles. With some justification, they pioneered affordable quality engineering for cars. But this would be about the sixth critical recall issue we’ve had with this car in only three or four years. Which is fine, they’re just being careful and no technological product is ever perfect. But I imagine if it had been even one critical recall for a Tesla, the hysteria we’d have seen in the press about it. I haven’t had one critical recall for the Tesla, and any updates needed have all been over the air software updates, overnight. A car that needs no servicing and which can run for 1,000,000 km with minimal maintenance is going to dethrone Toyota.
