When you're faced with an impossible situation, it usually means you're looking at it wrong I think. Going back to bats, they show us that viruses are not the problem. How our bodies react to them is the problem. Bats carry lethal viruses, but they don't make them sick, and they live long lives. Their immune systems don't panic and cause inflammation, like ours do, and that inflammation is what makes us 'sick' (it also makes us age). Ironically the solution to not just infectious disease but also disease in general, may be immune suppression - getting our immune systems to calm down. And training them to act in more nuanced ways, which is what immunotherapy is now doing for diseases like cancer. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/02/190226112401.htm
