I think whatever sphere of human life you look at, there is always a scale of value. A scale running from worst, to best. No matter how many say that they believe it's a glorious 'democracy' of individual taste, nobody acts as if that is true. Everybody ranks things. Democracy does too. So many problems in the world come back to ignorance of this basic fact (more to explore here I think).
