As is the case with medicine, banks are not private business. They’re HUGELY subsidised by the taxpayer. Tens of billions of dollars. Worth remembering when you hear all the apologists argue to leave them alone. Every single financial crisis in world history has been caused by banks, specifically financial instruments (basic banking is good for us, don’t be deceived thinking it’s much of a priority for banks these days). Some of those crises led to world wars. Finance is the most destructive human force in history.
