One of the engineering wonders Tesla has introduced into car making is the use of die casting to create whole sections of vehicles in one quick press. Until now carmakers assembled vehicles a piece at a time, using robots or people. Tesla increasingly creates the entire chassis in one or two presses. Massive die casting machines are used, called Giga Presses, up to 9000 tonnes. Not only does it make it super fast to create a vehicle (they're aiming to roll one off the line every 15 seconds, right now it's 30), but the far fewer moving parts makes the vehicle much more reliable and strong. Obviously the fewer moving parts, the fewer ways they can break or come apart.
