Derren Brown’s best work shows how desire and suggestion are the most fundamental part of who we are. The fascinating techniques he uses here are used by politicians and advertisers too, for example. Suggestion isn’t the overcoming of rational thought, it’s deeper than rationality. Rationality is itself another form of suggestion and desire. All of life is about persuasion, I think.
