Listened to this lots as a kid, it made the story seem even more gripping. What I didn’t know then is that one of the major inspirations H.G. Wells used for the story was the slaughter of Tasmanian Aboriginals. He imagined what it would feel like for Europeans to be slaughtered in that way.
