My favourite post-election saying is ‘the people have spoken’. Many winners say that. Even some losers. Forgetting the people also spoke for the other candidates who got elected, and even the ones who lost. And the same people will likely turn on them at the first sign of any of their fantasy promises being broken. Many local council winners will have gone to the election promising magic money, without raising rates. When the people realise that was a lie, duck for cover. I wouldn’t want to be those ‘winners’ right now.
