I think it's worth thinking about why the trend in this graph is happening at the same time as a dramatic rise in aggressive nationalism and patriotism. And why this same pattern is happening in just about every country. Why do we go crazy about love of country at exactly the same time as we start leaving it in massive numbers, every day? (My two cents: I think we mostly travel not for the happy reasons we pretend, but to try to fill a void.)
