A chicken and egg question. Which came first, government or the private sector? Probably many would say the private sector. But as with money, the freedom of private life is a creation of government. There was no private life in the way we mean that term, before there was government. The more laws and regulations we have, the more bureaucrats, the freer we are. (Empirically testable.) The fact that will appal many people goes to show just how well the propaganda of the past 50 years has worked. It won't make you free to do 'whatever you like', as an individual, because that's not what freedom is. Freedom is to be free from things like poverty, hunger, disease, the elements etc. Running away from home doesn't make you free, it makes you cold and hungry. Witness for the prosecution - the disaster of (privatised) aged care.
