One of the interesting things about the gas outage is that they have to individually reconnect pretty much every single building. Not for engineering reasons (that I know of), but because I think of the risk some people may have left the gas on when it wasn't working, and might end up with a building full of gas. Even when they repair the main lines, it could still take weeks to get everybody back on.
