Technically 45 degree angle parking was invented because it fits more cars than either parallel or a shallower angle, like 30 degrees. It was also thought to be easier for drivers to rejoin traffic, without having to turn sharply to get out of the space. One other thing not mentioned though which I think is as important, and not often seen because most 45-degree parking seems to be somewhere between 60-90 degrees, unless you paint the lines on the road as a guide. Parking at 45 degrees makes it much less likely your car will be damaged by the neighbouring car opening its doors. The doors are barely overlapping between neighbouring cars.
