This is what the counterculture produced. There was an assumption that we didn’t have peace on Earth because people chose not to have it. So if we just sang a song about peace on Earth, maybe people would change their mind and have peace. The full naive stupidity of this (which McCartney didn’t believe in anyway) didn’t occur to many then and still doesn’t today. Kidult culture, where everything is personal, and if we all just felt more positive and nice things, all of our problems would go away.
