The reason I left the university sector after nearly 20 years there was this. Supposed to be the custodian of society's ideas, but instead a gravy train milked by senior staff for exorbitant salaries, and utter contempt for professional staff, who are treated like servants. These senior staff are nearly all academics themselves, and academics almost universally blame the professional (non-academic) staff at every opportunity for problems in universities. Universities are run by failed academics who treat the whole thing as an assignment to be marked, endless re-writing of documents and meetings about the same documents. Aided and abetted by senior admin staff and consultants who add graphs and professional formatting to the endlessly-edited documents. An idiot culture, glad to be free of it. https://www.michaelwest.com.au/overpaid-university-bosses-cry-poor-as-their-foreign-student-riches-evaporate/?fbclid=IwAR0M6EbhJFlNAGyfF3K0wV2G2BvVpMyV8zuiN17kB7P7pCSQwtYN15rlujo
