Got notification from our electricity retailer yesterday of big price jumps on 1 July. Though they’re also raising the feed-in tariff for solar, which is interesting and nice. I suspect they’re doing very well out of home solar right now, providing them with a lot of much cheaper electricity to sell to others. Thankfully the price rise will have zero impact on us, as we don’t pay for any electricity, no matter the price. This is yesterday’s numbers as an example. We use some grid power in the mornings for heating, if it’s been a cold night and we’ve heated from the battery the night before. (Teenagers sitting up later can do that.) Sometimes we don’t even need that. But we exported a lot more (enough to power another household), and are also carrying a big surplus still from Spring and Summer, which will pay any small bills, including the daily connection charge. This also on the back of us adding electric heating to every single room in the house, something we didn’t have before. So we’re doing a lot more heating, but the cost to us is zero.
