The First Fleet was a convict transport. Ask those convicts if they’d celebrate this day. ‘Australia’ began in 1901, more than a century after the First Fleet. We don’t even know our own history. I have zero interest in all the ‘Change the Date’ stuff too, I’m not on that team either. I say ditch all national days, nationalism is a disease. This crowd couldn’t give a shit about anything except winning votes by starting fights. Flag-waving patriotism is a European disease, which they then exported to the US as well. It’s never been Australian, until now, when so many people live on US-saturated social media that it’s their only reference point on the world.
