When you have no meaningful relationship with the land you live in, you develop a Madonna-whore complex. You either sanctify everywhere you don’t live as ‘nature’ (a completely empty term) - that’s the Madonna - or you treat it as a resource to be mined and farmed, and conquered by your 4WD in a theme park ‘bush’ - the whore.
