During this energy crisis, I think it’s helpful for more of us to know the basic (mind-boggling) numbers behind the fossil fuel world we’ve all grown up in. Here’s a just a few. The world uses 16 BILLION litres of fossil fuels, per DAY. Let that sink in. Australia uses about 200 million litres of fossil fuels every day. About 6500 fuel tanker trucks are needed per DAY in Australia, just to move that fuel to where it’s needed. Those trucks burn about a *million* litres of diesel themselves, per DAY, just to move the fuel around. Once delivered, 70-80% of all of that fuel is wasted, when burned. Released to the atmosphere as heat and pollution, unused. The whole system is hilariously and grossly inefficient. And ruinously expensive. But people defend it.
