We live on the landscape, not in it. Our farming and mining are mostly equivalent, one extracts nutrients form the soil, the other minerals from the ground. (Mining actually does much, much less damage than farming.) We don't know how to live as part of a landscape. We either plunder it for resources, or turn it into a sacred object ('nature') and then worship it, using it as a theme park for tourism and off-roading. A Madonna-whore complex, for landscape. The people who know how to live in the landscape, to make the landscape a full actor in societies, we think are primitives. Without the landscape we're all dead, and fast.
