The maths of stupidity. The Granville train disaster killed 83 people. It’s still commemorated. Tens of thousands of people have died (and are still dying) of Covid in Australia. Our attitude to that? It’s ‘just a cold’. This is what politicians have done. None of the infectious diseases we fight every day of every year ever killed most of the population. We still controlled them, because we didn’t have this crazy new maths of ‘it isn’t a disaster unless it’s killing the entire population’. If you think it’s not a disaster because you’re still alive, after your Covid infection(s), firstly the people who die catch it because people like you keep spreading it. And Covid’s real damage happens longer term, to everybody who carries it.
