I still think we often have society upside down, in our thinking. Take kids, and school. We often assume society is made and driven by adults. I think it’s the opposite. Not only does our own social circle of adult friends often derive from the connections our kids make at school, I think you can also ‘read’ a society through its schools. Kids invent society, with each generation - they take their experiences at school and those shape how they act as adults, but also shape society while they're still kids. It’s been shown this extends even to language, where kids invent most new forms of language. Have a look at this school, it screams at you that this particular society is probably pretty regimented. The circle of life is more like a percolation between generations.
