One interesting thing to consider when buying a car (which should be an EV of course), is insurance. Teslas for example are expensive to insure. But it’s not an EV thing, becaue BYDs cost about half as much to insure. In fact a BYD is cheaper to insure than a Toyota. There will be a reason Teslas cost more to insure, insurers could tell us. Part of my work is insurance, these rates will fluctuate while the car industry transitions. None of it is really about the platform, whether something is EV or not. Insurance is always a critical window into very interesting things. For example you can’t get insurance for Covid, even though we assume we’re all living with it. Insurers aren’t fools like us, getting something wrong costs them actual money. They’re a brilliant guide to what’s really going on out there.
