Saul Griffiths is on a mission to electrify everything. Which is what we need to do if we’re not all going to be incinerated by climate change. And we have to do it fast. He’s an engineer, and amongst other things he’s been doing, he’s mobilising his entire suburb to electrify. If you have iView, check him out on Fran Kelly’s Frankly show this week (thanks Julia for the heads up). Amongst many other things, he talks about how electric cars use one-third of the energy per kilometre of a petrol or diesel car, and are 10 times cheaper to maintain over their lifetime. And how Australian rooftop solar is the cheapest energy in the entire world now, a story of real revolution. The indicators on climate change are genuinely disastrous, we don’t have long. No other work is more important if we’re going to survive. Mass community-driven electrification may be our best hope. Why I talk about it a lot, it will also save you thousands of dollars per year!
