America’s foundation was a revolution. Societies who are founded by revolutions tend to never shed the operating system of that revolution i.e. deeply held views about authority and tryranny, about carrying arms and militias etc. This is why to this day all sides there still believe government needs to be held ‘to account’, by ‘the people’. That’s the same revolutionary script, 250 years later. Societies are cultures, with long histories. Also why Americans are so obsessed with ‘freedom’ and see every attempt to manage or control or restrict what they do as tyranny. Their ‘fascist’ reflex is enormously over-sensitive.
