Have often wondered about this, the number of jobs out there that really add not much to all to collective happiness or health. We long ago reached a point where society didn’t need as many people to work or for those who do work to work so many hours in such pointless, bullshit ways. Instead we force everybody to work, often on jobs that they know are meaningless and pointless. The answer? We need to go back to the idea of the ‘Common-wealth’. All wealth is common, much of this pointless work is people working to make a tiny handful of people enormously rich, while the majority of people struggle to afford even a house. Not communism that’s needed, just a recognition that the ‘commons’ - what we all share and what’s good for all of us - has to be the centre of things again.
