I saw this created a bit of a fuss online. I think it’s another perfect illustration of how our music is just one more thing we use to form our social groups, to define our status and our identity. It’s what we do with everything, the cars and clothes we buy, the bands we like, the foods we eat, the medical treatments we use, who we vote for, etc. Social media is driving this mechanism into every nook and cranny of our lives, the continuous comparison of imitative rivalry between rival social groups. Society as a literal high school. Team windmill, team nuclear, team The Voice, team Tesla, team anti-Tesla, team salute the flag vs team change the date, team ICE vs team EV, etc. The team sports never end. Look around, you can’t unsee it.
