Millions will defend travel as the having of ‘experiences’. The funny thing is that everybody seems to go to the same places, at the same time. Almost like they’re copying other people, like buying shoes, phones, cars or watches. Or some deliberately choose to not go to these places, because they’re even more focused on what everybody else is doing. Most modern travel is a jet-fuelled excursion through social media feeds. People don’t actually leave home, it’s a game of imitative rivalry within their social media groups and feeds. People who never post here suddenly discover the post button, on their European trip! A wonder ;)
