One of the coolest electric motors people own right now, is the ‘digital’ motor in a Dyson vacuum cleaner. Dyson needed powerful and small (see pic of James Dyson comparing the size of a traditional household electric motor, and the Dyson ones) electric motors, so invented their own. These things can spin at more than 125,000 rpm. It’s also a great example of how much time we lost in the past 2 centuries pursuing useless alternative motor technologies. The year the concept behind the Dyson motor was first patented? 1838.
