Politics is mostly done with words. Take the loaded word ‘spending’. Invented in the 1970s to portray all government as wasteful. A much more accurate word is investment. Governments invest in communities, creating wealth. You have to spend money to make money, as the saying goes. Look at how Australia boomed after massive government investment in WW2. Modern politics causes governments to run what business calls ‘lazy balance sheets’. Little to no investment, so continuous degrading of infrastructure and little new industry. On the fantasy that individuals will do it instead. When was the last time any of you built an airport, or rail line, or power station?
