Why do viruses arrive in a community? Why do they leave? Why do they arrive and leave often everywhere at once, and not just one place at a time? The truth is - nobody really knows. About the only agency we give a virus is some desire to 'infect' as many people as possible. But the reality is very different, and I reckon we'd understand it all a lot better if we accepted microbes think - they have way more agency than we assume. Even if we don't develop a vaccine or any herd immunity, Covid-19 will eventually just disappear. And we won't know why. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-do-we-get-the-flu-mos/
