Petrol prices are eye-watering right now. When I was planning the solar system for the house, I was looking ahead to having full-EVs as vehicles. Here’s the system this month, nowhere near peak production yet. Green means surplus power we’re exporting to the grid, after everything in the house has been powered. Yellow is anything we’ve imported from the grid. An EV will use about 15 kWh to travel 100km. So right now, every day we’re producing enough spare electricity to add 300 km of range to an EV. Between 2000-3000 km of range, per week. That will almost double by mid-summer. Way, way more than we’ll ever need, even with 2 cars. Completely free fuel for motoring, a huge reduction in costs.
