I hit a safety barrier head on at over 100 km/h about 16 years ago. The only injury was a bruised thumb, from the air bag. Without the barrier I wouldn’t be here. The car lobby is extremely powerful, and extremely anti-social. Cars are like drugs, designed to serve us, and now we serve them. Our towns and cities were all re-designed to serve cars, and the social breakdown in them is largely caused by that change alone. They kill well over 3000 people *per day* worldwide in accidents (that’s 1.25 million people a year), and nearly 5 million others die from air pollution per year, a lot of which comes from vehicles. I love cars, but I think their time is up in their current form.
