This is probably the world’s best car, the Mercedes EQS. All electric, but what’s interesting about reviews for this car is industry journalists now saying they won’t qualify a car as ‘luxury’ unless it’s electric. The total silence, the staggering performance because of maximum torque from zero km/h, the absence of any gear changes to cause even a slight bump. Reviewers quite commonly say now, for electric cars at every part of the price spectrum, that they don’t want to return them when their review is done. I’ll stick with my prediction that in only a handful of years we’ll wonder why the hell we didn’t make this shift decades ago. Electric motors were around a century before petrol and diesel clunkers were even thought of. And who wants to pay over $100 a week for fuel when an electric will do the same miles for about $5, and will embarrass even a performance petrol or diesel in acceleration?
