The modern world seems peculiar. On the one hand life has never been more complex and connnected and rich. But on the other we seem to often be in a state of panic about it all, for example: - belief in conspiracies is rife - we hate governments, corporations, churches, crowds; pretty much anything that involves large groups of people - we can’t get enough technology, but at the same time we seem to feel it’s making our lives less authentic - we retreat to ‘local’ things like farmers markets, and beliefs that only face to face interaction is authentic - fantasy is the dominant genre of story we consume, and - money is said to be evil, but we can’t get enough of it. We enjoy the lives we live, but at exactly the same time we feel that ‘morally’ these lives are going backwards. Peculiar.
