We chuckle in The Gods Must be Crazy when the tribe starts to worship a Coke bottle. But I think it’s what we do with money. A tool that has no intrinsic value at all, but we still think of it like gold. ‘How is the government going to find the money for that?’ It doesn’t need to, it can print it. People are horrified by that idea, like it’s cheating. They still think money has value as an object.
