Forget the politics, do the sums. Go electric, even in stages. I notice the same people who opposed all progress on energy for the past 20 years are now trying a new argument, that going electric is too expensive, a rich person’s hobby. Rubbish. We’re now about $200 per week better off after installing solar, and switching to hybrid vehicles. You can get solar with an interest-free loan, no money upfront at all. Most solar systems pay for themselves inside 5 years, leaving you with a huge ROI. Later this year we’ll likely add another battery to the system, to use even more of the free energy available. But it’ll look like the picture, an ordinary electric hot water heater. 20-30% of your energy bill is hot water. It’ll pay for itself in about a year. Free hot water. Cutting gas off from the house entirely, including the daily supply charge. Then over a 5-10 year lifespan, we’ll cut even more costs by shifting to full-EVs, and charging them whenever possible from home solar. Almost free motoring.
