A telescope helps you see things that are ‘far away’. So it works with space. But if you point it to the stars you’re seeing things that happened anywhere from 1 minute to billions of years ago. So a telescope is a time machine. Time and space aren’t separate things - ‘far away’ means both distance, and time (how long it takes to get there). What if all machines are actually time machines? A car will get you from A to B a lot ‘faster’ than walking. Faster means time (you need less time for the trip). Suddenly you have more time in your day to do other things. The car created that time - machines don’t just take you back ‘in’ time, they create time too. (Also why fictional time machines, from HG Wells’ to the Tardis, misrepresent what time is.)
