What I sense isn't sinking in yet is that our 'lifestyle' is not compatible with infectious disease. Far too much mobility and mixing of people, within and between countries. The feeling I still get is that people see this as a temporary interruption to lifestyle-as-usual. It's way bigger than that, as I posted the other day unless we change, 10 million of us will die *every year* of superbugs alone, due to this lifestyle. This is a warning, not a one-off event, antibiotics and vaccines have bought us the illusion of freedom, but it's coming to an end. And the really silent danger here I think is chronic infections, the invisible ones, causing most of our chronic illnesses like heart disease and cancer, created by the same too-mobile lifestyle. Infectious disease is an ecological state, not an interruption to health.
