Have decided on a Tesla Powerwall. It will likely never fully pay for itself at current prices (though I nabbed one before the recent price hike), but with electricity prices projected to rise by as much as 80% next year, who knows if that equation might shift rapidly (and the government may introduce price controls before Christmas). But there are other reasons to have one of these, see the graph. I think the next 5 years at least could be extremely volatile with home energy, both in terms of price and supply. Having your own backup may be a good plan. The Central West just discovered that with gas. I suspect that’s just a taster of what’s to come. I also think our domestic coal mining and power generation could go belly up faster than we think. We don’t own much of it, so we’ll have next to no control over it.
