Veteran music producer Tony Visconti, who lived through Beatlemania, describing the EXACT shift the counterculture of that time was. And it had nothing whatever to do with music. Like he says here, until The Beatles, kids wanted to be their parents. Then along came The Beatles, and they now wanted to be The Beatles. That’s a fundamental change to *culture* itself. All of it. The young generating a counter-culture, to adult culture. Thus the name. This was the beginning of the great boomer hijacking of adult life, and replacement of it by teen culture. That shift had been building for most of the century, with compulsory schooling creating a separate child/adolescent culture. In 2025 we’re still living inside that adolescent counterculture. We just mostly don’t recognise it. People in their 80s with the same sets of beliefs, passions and worldviews as people who are 17. Completely unprecedented in world history.
