I’m up an hour early today. The only way I’ve found to counteract the stupidity of Daylight Saving is to change my bed and waking times, to avoid as much as possible the shift to the circadian rhythm, which is so harmful to health. People know about my anger on Daylight Savings, going back many years. It’s symptomatic of a culture where only what is popular, happens. No matter how stupid, or how damaging. You can quote the science of why Daylight Saving is stupid and even dangerous until you’re blue in the face, and you’ll get the same response every single time. “But I like it.” That’s it. That’s the winning argument. Kidult culture, where popularity rules everything. Some people like raping women. Is that OK, because they like it? No? Kids will eat nothing but ice cream, if you let them, because they like it. Once you subscribe to ‘I like it’ as the way to decide things, you have to accept all of it. Whatever somebody likes will by definition be OK. Progress in human life is moving beyond likes and dislikes, and doing what’s smart and what’s right.
