Fantastic piece from Peter Hartcher today. This is the stuff I've been annoying people with for months. If you read the history of pandemics all of this was inevitable. But we don't want to hear it. He does leave out the obvious option - eliminate the friggin' virus. All pandemics have to be eliminated. "We got the idea into our heads that once we'd got through a couple of months of lockdown, we'd revert blissfully back to life as we'd known it...There is no zero-sum trade-off between health outcomes and economic ones as many politicians imply. You'll have heard many of them demand that health protections are removed to "reopen the economy". It's vacuous political puffery." https://www.smh.com.au/national/the-assassin-is-out-there-virus-calls-for-a-new-way-of-thinking-20200710-p55b1a.html
