Bad people keep winning elections because good people are so often politically stupid. They think protest and noble speeches win elections and change the world. (They don't.) They want to feel good, to exude righteousness, but winning? They have no idea. Right now the destruction from the protests in the US is playing right into Trump's 'law and order' strategy's hands. And many of these protestors won't even vote, so politically they're pissing into the wind.
