The mob is turning on Coldplay a bit now. Bands becoming less ‘cool’ is the group of people who follow them losing some of their social status. This is the point I make about ‘gig culture’, bands were used to help define peoples’ social status and identity. You can see it clearly when the band loses cool. It’s brutal for the artists, Phil Collins for example never really recovered from the mob turning on him.
