Tesla is finalising another genius bit of engineering. If you have the home battery and wall charger and vehicle, it will allow you to use your car batteries to top-up your home battery, as needed. This is a post about engineering. Not about brands. I’m not a teenager or kidult. Many people used the government’s battery rebate to rush out and buy enormous home batteries. I stuck with Tesla and a smaller 27 kWh battery, which is plenty for any home. Because it also has a very sophisticated ‘brain’, called a Gateway. See below for why that matters a helluva lot. The rush to have bigger batteries was driven by social media rivalry, to have the biggest and best. The battery version of wankpanzer cars. And the anti-Elon push scared people off Tesla, also generated by the socials. But for proper home electrification you need integration between all of the components. Once Tesla releases this integration, our home battery will grow to an enormous 190 kWh capacity. Dwarfing all other home batteries. The home and vehicles could run almost indefinitely if the entire grid went down. And what will that shift require? Nothing. Only a downloaded software update. Tesla’s genius is to engineer things so that upgrades and brand new functionality is available via software only. Same for the cars, they hardly ever need to see a workshop, or to upgrade to the new model for new functionality. It’s all downloaded, as software, at home. You can follow viral trends, living inside social media. It will waste a lot of your money to achieve fewer things.
